Eames Hack High Chair will appear in the Techno Craft Exhibition

The Eames hack team is very happy to announce that the "Eames Hack High Chair" will be on display at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts later this summer. Special thanks go to The Industrial Design Department at The University of the Arts and the Design Within Reach store in Center City Philadelphia.

"Industrial designer Yves Behar is curating his first exhibition, entitled, 'technocraft: hackers, modders, fabbers,tweakers, and design in the age of individuality'.

Technocraft looks at the different ways that consumers are personalizing design in efforts to assert creativity and individuality in an age of mass-production. This rise in popularity of integrated and collaborative design has been aided by a number of social and technological trends such as social networking, access to sophisticated design tools, open source technology, 'fab labs,'and the overwhelming desire to create.

The show is organized around six subthemes: crowdsourcing, platforms, blueprints, hacks,incompletes, and modules.

Enzo Mari, Max Lamb, 5.5 Designers, Studio Proxy, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are just a few of the many designers, whose works will be displayed in the show. A full list of designers will be released later this month.

The exhibition will be held at ybca (yerba buena centre for the arts), San Francisco
from July 10 to October 3, 2010."

Eames Hack

These two pieces, the Eames toilet chair and the Eames child seat, are about breaking the status surrounding high design objects. Through physically invasive alterations, these once iconic, elite, forms are liberated from their old, restrained image. The project is not a critique of the Eames, but rather a fulfillment of their original ideals.

This project was produced as part of a three day charette in the Department of Industrial Design at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. The theme of the charette centers around Remake and DIY culture. The purpose of this charette is to explore the role designers have in respect to this emerging culture. The team members for this project are as follows: Jared Delorenzo, Tim Peet, Alexandra Temple Powell, Tom Reynolds, Alie Thomer, and Andrew McCandlish.
